The fact of God’s existence is both the scriptural and the logical starting-point for a systematic study of Bible doctrine. It is the scriptural starting-point because the first verse in the Bible apprises us of it. It is the logical starting-point because the fact of God’s existence underlies all other Bible doctrines. Without the existence of God all other Bible doctrines would be meaningless. John Gill, in his “Body of Divinity,” (p. 1) remarks very appropriately:
